Hibi (or crack in English) printed and painted for a solo exhibition, 'Private Scenes ‘92', held at Nikon Salon in Tokyo, is comprised of 111 photographs of city streets overlaid with a set of bromide prints with fluid drawings in brightly colored inks. Best known for his seminal publication Ravens (Sohkyu Sha, 1986) that was recently referred to as the most important photobook of the last 20 years, Fukase tragically died in 2012 having spent years in a coma after suffering a traumatic brain injury from falling down the steep steps of his favorite bar in the "Golden Gai" area of Shinjuku.
