When Lieko Shiga's book Rasen Kaigan (Spiral beach) was released in 2013 it established her as one of the most original talents in Japanese photography. While based in Kitakama (Miyagi Prefecture) on a residency program since 2006 her studio and all her work were destroyed in the tsunami of 2011. Rasen Kaigan is all work completed in the wake of the disaster and continues her work on the festivals of the region. Employing a fresh dynamic style, photographing at night or dusk with blown out flash, cross processing and double exposures. Item #12611
