Dildo is Momo Okabe’s four year project photographing two young women (both her former lovers) struggling with issues of gender identity. One finally has her breasts removed, the other travels to Thailand for sex reassignment surgery. Their odyssey from women to men is a nonlinear documentation juxtaposing tightly constructed landscapes and still lives littered with decay and debris, alongside portraits and snapshots loaded with gender ambiguity. Dildo is laid out as images carefully tipped in and uniformly facing each other in a ring bound album all muted in grain and the warm hues of Okabe’s distinctive palette. This is the second publication from Session Press, and is distributed exclusively by Dashwood Books. Off set printed sheets tipped in and hand assembled by the artist. It is produced in a limited edition of only fifty-five signed and numbered copies, five of which are special editions with prints. Item #12799
