Nazraeli Press One Picture Books is an ongoing series of limited-edition artists books. Each title is limited to 500 numbered and signed copies. The artists selected for this series are asked to create a book based on one image, or one series of related images. The result is a uniform series of modestly priced, eminently collectable books, each numbered and signed by the artist and containing an original work of art. Parr has long been fascinated by Communist countries, and by their artifacts in particular. This small but perfectly presented selection of six color images vividly depicts a range of food - from a plate of luncheon meat to a gloriously decorated cake - together with the necessities of life: a toilet roll, a bar of soap, a (dripping) tap. An original print, tipped-in, makes up the seventh still life. The photographs were taken between 1999 and 2002 in Cuba, Latvia, Lithuania and Kazakstahn. Item #138
