Hashiguchi began to document the plight of Tokyo youth in 1980 in his award winning project Shishen (The Look). He then traveled through five Western cities: Liverpool, London, Nuremberg, West Berlin, and New York in a quest to further chronicle communities of disenfranchised youths abroad. This new edition of Hashiguchi’s seminal early work published by Session Press and distributed in North America by Dashwood includes more than 30 previously unpublished images and an essay by Yoshitomo Nara reflecting upon the project as well as his own time spent as a youth in Europe during the ‘80s.
