Original Andy Warhol Green Pea Soup Can button given out to attendees at Warhol’s first solo Pop exhibition at Eleanor Ward’s Stable Gallery at 33 East 74th Street in New York in November 1962. This particular button originally belonged to the art writer and collector William S Wilson who received it as a gift from Henry Geldzahler who also attended the event. See picture of Bill Wilson with one of his twins at the opening. The button has a yellow back and is complete with original red ribbon. A photograph of one of the ribbons is included in vol. 1 of The Andy Warhol Catalogue Raisonné Collection (Phaidon) Fig. 41, p. 076. Reproduction copies have silver backs rather than yellow ones and were included in the Andy Warhol Pop Box (published by the AW Museum and The Whitney in 2002). Item #19587
