These photographs were taken over the course of six months while living in Mexico City. The process of living alone in a foreign country can become challenging because of the moments of isolation that can make one feel starved for connection. In the past, I've used my camera as an instrument for interaction, and so I decided to explore the city, camera in-hand, and walk through Mexico City's various barrios; from upscale neighborhoods like Roma to infamously dangerous areas such as Tepito, as a way to better understand the city I lived in. I approached people who seemed to have stories to tell, whose faces were as much a part of the city as the buildings and streets. And so what started as an exercise in speaking with strangers in the hopes of connection, soon evolved into a project of understanding and documenting the many faces of Mexico City. CF. Item #25703
