Irving Penn's last book is one of his very best. Produced only weeks before his death by the Getty Museum in Los Angeles for his exhibition there this summer it reproduces the complete series of 252 Small Trades photographs acquired by the Getty in 2008. Shot in Paris, London and New York City in 1950 & 51 there is an ethnographic approach to his depictions of tradesmen and women from fishmongers to deep sea divers that anticipates his later better known work World's in a Small Room.
