One of my all time favorite Araki titles for its’ stylish design and reserve. In it Araki photographs a beautiful worker from a soapland (basically a bathhouse where men are washed by hostesses) in the famous redlight district of Yoshiwara in Tokyo. The title comes from a famous 18th century story about the sister of a sex worker from Yoshiwara. Given the title and Araki’s reputation, already synonymous with overt sexual content, he chose to deliberately disguise the book in a plain cover with no photograph just simple font. The pages between the covers reveals a sophisticated women, fashionably dressed in a series of portraits in and around her stylish modern apartment complex. No nudes only a rather mournful expression echoing the tragic theme of Midori. Item #12677
