Terayama was a versatile artist who used his works primarily to explore the theme of sexuality, but also sought to demystify traditional values, especially those of the family. His book exhibits themes popularized 1960s in defiance of the bourgeois convention, that any space could lend itself to theatrical performance. Photothèque Imaginaire de Shuji Terayama: Les Gens de la Famille Chien-Dieu dimensionalised traditional photography by using the nude as an irreverent omnipresence which plays off popular legends and memories of the imperial past to form eccentric, ironic scenes of an absurd nature. Terayama further disseminates his ideas by integrating written text, postage ephemera, and more abstractly through the concept of the souvenir. Item #8929
