Dashwood Books announces Four From Japan

Saturday, Sep 19, 2015 7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

Dashwood Books invites you to a book signing for four emerging photographers from Japan; YosukeTakeda, Yuji Hamada, Masumi Kura and Yusuke Yamatani.

We asked each photographer to bring copies of their most recent book and produce a
customized version specifically for the event at Dashwood; a version of the original that reflects their own practice.

Stay Gold by YosukeTakeda
Published by Omoplata & Taka Ishii Gallery
Price: $60
After moving to digital photography, Takeda produced various works overflowing with a penetrating degree of consciousness towards photography as a medium. Image printed on card stock created especially for the Dashwood event. Signed by the artist.

C/ M/ Y by Yuji Hamada
Published by Fw:
Price: $45
Hamada deconstructs the images through a photographic process, and finds new ways to print color images, in order to create a new constructed reality.
Sold with a special screen print made as invitations for an exhibition at POST in Tokyo. Signed by the artist.

36 Lights by Yuji Hamada
(Self-published)
Price: $25
Additionally Hamada will premiere a series of site-specific books called 36 Lights in which he reproduces each image in sequence of a 36 frame roll of film.  The first book is a series of photographs of the river Amstel in Amsterdam.

HIMI by Masumi Kura
Price: $60
Photographs of the artist's family in her hometown in Japan's Toyama Prefecture. A mixture of informal portraits and shots of the surrounding area, represent for Kura a challenge of "whether it is possible to objectively capture people who are so intimate and places that are so familiar".
Strips from the color proofs will be hand taped over one of the book's corresponding printed page so that each copy is entirely unique.

Ground by Yusuke Yamatani
Published by Lemon Books
Price: $55
Photographs of the floors concert halls in Tokyo are printed life-size and laid back down over the same floors before a concert begins. The print's emulsion is worn off by shoes and becomes stained by alcohol and the sweat of dancers.
An original print from the project will be cut into 5 x 7 sections and placed inside each copy.
